KIMBERLY MILFORT, Founder
Hi, I'm Kim. I started White Hibiscus Gifts in 2019 to share my love for gift giving, and to encourage those around me to give more.
The hibiscus is the national flower of Haiti. As a Haitian American living in the U.S, I have been privileged to have access to resources and education most of my life. I believe that all children, regardless of their nationality or circumstances deserve free quality education, and my goal is to support Haitian community leaders who are doing great work and share that vision. I also believe that Haitians and the diaspora are the best answers to our own challenges. A perfect example of that is dancer and activist Jean-Paul Weaver from the Selke-Dimanche Project, who first connected me to creative ways of supporting Haitian-led arts and education programs.
My 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor, Indy Convergence partners with White Hibiscus to enrich relationships they have been building for years with the community around Sa-k-la-k-Wel center built by and for the people of Oban, Haiti. And it is an absolute privilege to support the important work of free education champion Fanes Priva in Port-au-Prince with Kingdom Kids Haiti.
My very first project like this was a gathering of artists around the holidays, making Christmas Cards in 2018, that included a gift to a Haitian child on behalf of the recipient. This project was so successful, that I decided to build a business around it to invite other Haitian-led organizations to partner with us - and they've inspired the products we hope will bring joy to you and yours.
